He Mistook Her For A Swan
Love, Loss, Murder, Ghosts
Poor Polly Vaughan. She was just going about her business when it began to rain. She pulled her apron up over her head to keep dry and her nitwit boyfriend mistook her for a Swan. And so it goes...
Since releasing our first all acoustic album in 2020 we've been fascinated by the dark stories and emotions of traditional folk music. With our new release LADY ISOBEL - we continue that journey but with a fuller and more innovative instrumentation. It's a sweet sad mix of traditional ballads and more recent folk gems reimagined in our own style.
Originally inspired by folk artists such as Bert Jansch, Jackson C Frank and Anne Briggs, their sound retains a solid traditional basis but informed and shaped by the more recent sounds of bands like Lankum.
It's been a long journey to get here. From sitting in a church basement at 15 years of age playing Mississippi John Hurt, through punk rock, country rock, indie, classic rock, singer songwriter, back to punk, somehow we ended up using all those miles and years to breath some new life to Child ballads from centuries ago. It just feels like home.

Colleen Hodgson and Steve Koch, HE MISTOOK HER FOR A SWAN, do Sandy Denny’s song as well as anyone’s ever done it.
